Trout in November

This November I will be playing several chamber music concerts with violinist Evelyn Estava, violist Gabriela Rengel, cellist Gerall Hieser and double bassist Gennaro Marchese. We will be doing Schubert’s beloved piano quintet (the Trout), which uses an unusual string combination of violin, viola, cello and double bass instead of the usual string quartet instruments of 2 violins, viola and cello. The piece will be coupled with Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Piano Quintet written a few years earlier and for the same ensemble. Some scholars think that Schubert was influenced by Hummel in his choice of instruments. The concerts will also include three songs by Schubert (including the Trout) sang by visiting American/Austrian baritone Steven Scheschareg. These concerts will be wonderful musical events!
